Educator of the Month - November 2012

Liz Bowen

Liz Bowen

She started her passion for birth work after taking a Bradley class with her first baby. She wanted to start teaching soon after that, but became pregnant again... and then again. She has three children: Isabella, 5; Jules, 4; and Lily, 2. So, once Lily arrived she decided to pursue teaching. She started with Bradley, then quickly moved to another organization before finally finding Informed Beginnings to complete her certification. She has been teaching for two years. Liz just completed the toLabor doula training and is working on her requirements to become a doula. (AND she was Informed Beginnings' FIRST certified educator!)

Liz has a degree in Dance from Columbia College Chicago and enjoyed dancing and choreographing for several years before she moved onto her next career... being a dolphin trainer! She worked as an animal trainer at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago for 12 years as an employee and an additional 2 years as a volunteer. She worked with dolphins, whales, sea lions, sea otters, penguins, river otters, hawks and little monkeys. Through dance she learned how the body works with movement and posture and relaxation. At the Aquarium, she was able to be a part of many mammal births of both dolphins and whales. She utilizes what she has learned from both previous careers and applies them to her childbirth classes.
